This website is a personal portfolio. It has no accounts, forms or newsletter, and it does not use advertising or tracking cookies. This page explains which personal data is still processed when you visit it, and why.
Who is responsible
Pieter-Jan Scheir, Aalter, Belgium, is the controller for this website. For any question about your data, email pieterjan@scheir.eu.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel. To deliver pages and keep the service secure, Vercel processes technical data such as your IP address, browser and the pages requested, and keeps it in server logs for a limited time set by Vercel. This is based on legitimate interest (running a secure website).
Visitor statistics
Vercel Web Analytics counts page views to show which pages are visited. For each view, Vercel receives the page address without its query string, the page you came from, your device type, browser and operating system, and your country. The country is derived from your IP address, which itself is not stored. Visitors are told apart by a hash that changes every day, so you are not followed from one day to the next, and no cookies are used. Only aggregated numbers are reported. This is based on legitimate interest (understanding how the site is used).
Google Maps
The map on the contact page only loads after you click "Load map". From then on, Google receives your IP address and may set cookies, under Google’s privacy policy. This is based on your consent, which you give by loading the map. The map is not loaded again after a reload, but cookies Google already set stay until you delete them in your browser settings.
Contacting me
When you email, call or book a meeting through Cal.com, I use the details you share only to answer and follow up on your request, based on your request and my legitimate interest in replying, and I delete them when they are no longer needed. My email and phone providers process these messages to deliver them; Cal.com processes bookings under its own privacy policy.
Data stored in your browser
When you read the site in a language other than your browser’s, for example after choosing one in the language menu, the site sets a NEXT_LOCALE cookie with that language, so the site’s main address sends you back to it. It is deleted when you close your browser. Your light, dark or system theme setting is kept in your browser’s local storage. Neither is used for tracking or shared with anyone.
Transfers outside the EU
Vercel, Google and Cal.com are based in the United States. Where your data reaches them, the transfer relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your data, restrict or object to its processing, ask for a copy (data portability) and withdraw a consent you gave at any time. Email pieterjan@scheir.eu. You can also file a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be).
